About My Clients
I work with individuals and couples ranging from their 20s to 70s. I help people shift their experiences of anxiety and depression so life feels more manageable and rewarding. As a relationship and sex therapist I create understanding and acceptance around challenges, and teach concrete communication, conflict management, and emotional and sexual intimacy skills. My clients are motivated to change and curious about how to do that. I'm warm, gentle, and interactive.
My Background and Approach
I'm a systemic therapist and consider how relationships and external contexts (culture, current events and stressors, family dynamics) affect you. None of us exist in a vacuum - we're social learning creatures and absorb lots of messages and habits, both helpful and hurtful ones. I start therapy with understanding your current situation and helping you manage present challenges. This includes increasing your understanding and insight about how you've learned to cope with stress, relate to other people, think about yourself, and manage feelings and needs. You'll practice new, healthier behaviors. I am present and interactive in sessions. I help you respond to issues in more grounded, empowering ways. I may suggest reading, listening to podcasts, or doing specific exercises on your own or with a partner outside of sessions. A good part of my work includes helping clients treat themselves with compassion and acceptance so they can break out of learned self-criticism and shame.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I was raised to accept and embrace people of all faiths, cultures, sexual orientations and ethnicities. I appreciate the complexity of our common humanity as well as our individual experiences of discrimination and privilege. I actively practice extending compassion and curiosity to others. I find peace and meaning in nature and relationships.
