About My Clients
I work across the lifespan from health challenges in pregnancy through end of life issues. I know my clients problems exist within a network of families and social systems and work at many levels to meet my client's needs. I focus on issues of attachment and trauma and I work with children and families. I am trained to work with all faiths and cultures. I am trained in both evidence based and transpersonal psychology and work with trauma and clients who have high ACE scores.
My Background and Approach
My training is from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. The program I attended focused on psychotherapy integration, which means I incorporate many different branches of therapy. I began my professional life in medical school and learned to use the Bio-Psycho-Social model. I incorporate my background in health promotion and transpersonal psychology to my psychotherapy when appropriate. I have 39 years of lived experience with a mobility disability and seek to provide services that see a whole person beyond physical limitations. I use a model that includes assisting a person with a disability to be, do and belong. I have a background in the arts and use creative expression with my clients.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am an intersectional feminist and active in social justice and animal rights groups. I am a disability activist. I am a long term student of A Course in Miracles, Buddhism and Integral Yoga but was raised and educated Roman Catholic. I am trained to work with all faiths but I am not the best person for a client who is very conservative in their faith or other beliefs. I am LBGTQ affirmative and trained in San Francisco at the height of the epidemic. I believe I am a person with specialized skills who is still very much human. I am very aware that when a client sees a therapist there is a power differential. I am here to walk beside you not make decisions on how to live your life.
