About My Clients
My clients are so capable, kind, creative, and continue to achieve meaningful change. They bravely consider new ideas. Some are groups and couples; most are individuals adapting to and overcoming stress, trauma, and addiction, changes in career and military service, and developing new skills in communication and relationships. LGBTQ+ folks are welcome. Folks I see may be working through attachment/conflict, mental health after disaster, EMDR/trauma therapies, and new counselor supervisees.
My Background and Approach
First sessions are assessment, building the counseling relationship, and setting priorities. Often, there are multiple concerns happening at the same time. As progress is made in one area, the priority may shift to another focus. In staying open, honest, and flexible with current needs, I am confident a variety of skills will be developed to address a variety of challenging situations. I am person-centered and strength-based as a clinician, pragmatic with brief solution-focused skills and trauma-informed self regulation tools woven in. My goal is to help make everyday stressors more manageable as longer-standing concerns get whittled down so the lifetime burden of trauma is minimized. I use CBT, EMDR, MI, REBT, DBT, ACT, and attachment lenses to build a safe, supportive, therapeutic environment in which to heal. I also tailor interventions based on your feedback so we can be the most effective with our time together.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
When barriers to recovery are lowered and supportive avenues are available, folks' resilience can truly shine, sometimes brighter than anyone could have expected. This is my political view in a nutshell. While personal responsibility is important for future success, so are care, support, and viable options. Not everyone is starting at the same place or has the tools and advantages to be competitive in our biased world. It is up to us to clear barriers, both internal and external, so potential can become accomplishment. Due to these ideas, I have trained more in trauma recovery, communication and couples work, addictions and managing stressors constructively, community stabilization after disaster, crisis intervention and suicidality, and the intersectionality of multiple risk enhancing conditions. When care and dignity, choice and agency, and new options for coping and moving forward are established and protected, amazing change can happen.
