About My Clients

Individuals who worry that they are "too much" for a therapist often find me to be a good fit. Many of my clients have felt shamed by previous therapists who judged their lifestyle choices or because the therapist was overwhelmed by them in some way or form. I've specialized in the developmental stage of young adults. Many of my clients are creative, questioning, and active in diverse communities. They tend to want a therapist who is active, engaging, and collaborative with the therapy process.

My Background and Approach

I utilize a variety of methods including arts, somatic work and brain spotting to assist individuals in learning to be more present with their life. I have a passion for working with ptsd and dissociative disorders. Dissociation can range from being numb to having trouble with memory. I am also skilled with issues concerning psychosis and bipolar disorders. I meet clients where they are at and make sure that treatment is a collaboration. I use an approach that mixes different clinical styles because different approaches may be needed for different issues or individuals. I tend to not be an individual that utilizes worksheets or homework, however. I have experience leading grief groups for individuals who have lost loved ones to suicide. I have experience as a program manager working with programs that focus on young adults with serious mental health issues and forensic programs. I believe the need for quality treatment for complex trauma is pervasive but not always well understood.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I tend to be a therapist that does not believe in a one size fits all model. Mindfulness can be great for certain individuals who experienced trauma a little later in life. But sometimes full on mindfulness can be terrible for individuals who experienced trauma when they were very young as it is just too much too fast. I attempt to understand the goals the client is aiming for early on and then I check in with the client regularly on these goals and how they are feeling in terms of meeting them. I believe in working with the client where they are at and I believe that therapy is a process that works best when we work at together as a team rather than something I direct or do to a client. This is because a collaborative approach is the best way for a client to learn the skills that best work for them, integrate change, and then eventually get to a place where they might not need a therapist anymore to meet their personal goals.
