About My Clients
Most people who find me have done therapy before. They understood a lot and changed very little. They can explain where the problem came from and still lie awake at 2am. I work with adults carrying trauma, grief, or a relationship pattern they keep repeating, and I work especially well with people who arrive skeptical. A fair number of the men I see were referred by another man who found it useful. I see adults only, individually, by video anywhere in Utah. I don't do couples or children.
My Background and Approach
I'm a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in Utah with a master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. I've logged more than 1,500 client sessions, roughly a third of them EMDR, and my EMDR training is EMDRIA-approved. I'm also trained in Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy and Trauma-Focused CBT, and I work with CBT and ACT day to day. What that range is for is simple: if the first approach doesn't fit you, we change it. I'll tell you which method I'm using and why, because you shouldn't have to guess what's happening in your own therapy. Underneath the acronyms I'm listening for three things at once. What happened to you, what you felt, and what you've decided it means about you. That third one is where lasting change comes from. I organize the work into stretches of roughly 8 to 12 weeks aimed at a defined target, then we review it together. The structure keeps us purposeful without putting a clock on your healing.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe people are capable rather than damaged, and I work that way. The point of therapy is that you see your situation clearly and make decisions on purpose, instead of being managed by circumstances or by old reflexes. That belief comes out of reality therapy and existential work, and it shapes every session I run. On faith, which matters in Utah: I work with people across the whole range. Deeply committed, questioning, actively stepping away, long since gone, and never religious at all. I won't steer you toward belief or away from it. Either one would be my agenda substituted for yours. What I will take seriously is whatever role belief has played in your life, including the parts that hurt, like the grief that comes with changing beliefs and the loneliness of not fitting the community you grew up in. I'm also direct. If I think you're avoiding something, I'll say so, kindly. You will not be too much for me, and big feelings in a session don't rattle me.
