About My Clients

I hope to work with those who may be exploring counseling for the first time, or returning to counseling after a pause in services. As someone who has experienced a hard time finding BIPOC counselors, I'd also like to support and offer services for BIPOC clients who are looking to explore the mental health field. Be authentically you in this space. I invite you to bring yourself, whether that’s your favorite coffee mug, your animal friend, or your favorite curse words. This space is for you.

My Background and Approach

I use a Person Centered approach in my counseling which means I allow the clients to lead the session. Understandably, counseling may be an unfamiliar or uncomfortable experience for those new to counseling, so I’d like to support you by answering any questions in regards to the practice. Though I may lead from a person centered approach, there may be times where I will naturally add questions into the space, as well as some mindfulness exercises or role-plays and enactments (acting a scenario out). Silence is natural and normal, there may be times where you may find silence in the room, and silence can be used as a time to process and honor what has been put into the space. Along with the person centered approach, I also use the lens of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), narrative therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

As a second-generation Asian-American born to immigrant parents, my cultural identity has been one of variety, depth, and confusion. Holding values from my parent’s home countries of the Philippines and China, mixed with the values of America; it has shaped my understanding and experience through a cultural lens. With this mix, it also comes the polarizing conversations on mental health in the household, or the lack thereof. Having experienced my own mental health struggles first hand, I learned the importance of creating space and dialogue for the relationships between the mind, body, and spirit within our community and ourselves. Though not something typically discussed growing up in a two-immigrant household, I am happy with the new support from my family to pursue a career in mental health; hoping to hold that same support for you all as well. I volunteer with the Crisis Text Line and am an ally of the BLM movement and LGBTQIA+ community.
