About My Clients
I work with individuals affected by a range of issues including adjustment, perinatal mental health anxiety, grief, trauma, relationship issues, geriatric/end of life issues, low self esteem and academic/job related stress. I enjoy supporting parents in addressing their own needs both as they transition to parenthood and as they transition through the various phases of being a parent. Finding balance and perspective can be hugely helpful in feeling less stress and more connection.
My Background and Approach
My approach is warm, affirming, integrative, dynamic, and trauma informed. I start from a place of acceptance and validation but I believe therapy should be more than that. I am committed to wading through the tough stuff and celebrating progress. I know that therapy works best if you are too. I am trained and have experience in a variety of evidence based interventions including: EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprogramming) Motivational Interviewing Dialectic Behavioral Therapy Attachment Self Regulation and Competency Cognitive Behavioral Therapy My approach is always tailored to the needs of the client and I pull from these and other models in order to provide the right support to each client.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My first passion is supporting women and new parents as they make the transition into parenthood and all the life changes that come with it. In particular, I have an interest in supporting birthing persons who have felt disempowered, challenged, or traumatized by their pregnancy and birth experiences. Whether that trauma is the result of interactions with the healthcare system, uncontrollable circumstances, or life not living up to your expectations. For me, this issue is both personal and professional. My Second passion is the intersection of our mind and bodies. Much of my training and experience has included a focus on developmental and attachment trauma and how it influences how we survive and who we become. As a trained yoga teacher, I often weave somatic and body-based approaches into trauma work. I am a social worker by training and as such, much of my lens as a clinician is oriented towards social justice values.
