About My Clients
I’ve found I enjoy working with those who experiencing distressing symptoms related to their mood and how this may impact their relationships around them. It’s important not just to look at the symptoms that one is experiencing but also how that’s impacting the most important aspects of their lives. As time progressed, I found another area of special interest working with those who experienced difficulty with treatment success, having medical complexities, and investigating causes of memory loss
My Background and Approach
I applied for my first position in mental health while waiting for my high school diploma to be issued. I loved it from the very beginning. For about 6 years, I worked in supervisory positions and case management before becoming a psychiatric nurse. Knowing I wanted to continue with my education, I pursued my BSN. This built on fundamental nursing skills, with emphasis on a high-level view of patient needs and the healthcare system as a whole. During my undergraduate studies, I was invited to join Sigma Theta Tau, the national society recognizing the top tier of nursing students. I have maintained my membership since 2008. Once obtaining my BSN, I continued to my MSN and became a psychiatric nurse practitioner. I immediately enrolled at Wilkes University to complete my MA with a concentration in Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Studies. In both my undergrad and graduate studies I graduated Summa Cum Laude, the highest level of honors in cumulative GPA.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My top priority is building a relationship with my patients so they feel comfortable talking to me as though I was a trusted friend.I consider it an honor that they are putting their faith in me to help them during a time of vulnerability. I do not take this lightly. I want everyone to feel as though the plan developed was centered around their priorities. My approach is all-encompassing- I look at any potential influences on mental health- relationships, home environment, and underlying medical issues that may have not been uncovered yet. Over time I found myself enjoying challenging scenarios that offer the opportunity to "think outside the box" approaches. This led to the discovery of the complexities of geriatric psychiatry, testing for all scenarios related to memory concerns, and the awareness that there is often an element of grieving attached to the loss of independence, loved ones, and a lifestyle once enjoyed. We are all multifaceted, and our needs demand a unique plan.
