About My Clients
You have taken a very positive step by seeking therapy. The outcome depends largely on your willingness to participate and engage in this process, which may sometimes result in discomfort. Remembering unpleasant events and becoming aware of feelings attached to those events can bring on intense feelings of anger, depression, anxiety, etc. There are no miracle cures. I cannot promise that your behavior or circumstances will change. However, I can promise to support you and do my very best!
My Background and Approach
Hello, I’m Canaan Baker a Licensed Professional Counseling Associate and Licensed Chemical Dependency counselor for the state of TX and the founder of Books Over Bottles. My passion lies in helping individuals break free from cycles of trauma, addiction, and emotional pain to build healthier, more fulfilling lives. My journey into counseling wasn’t something I initially planned—I never envisioned going beyond a bachelor’s degree. But life has a way of guiding us toward our purpose. Through my own experiences and years of working with individuals navigating trauma, substance use, and deep emotional wounds, I felt called to do more. I hold a Master of Arts in Human Services Counseling from Liberty University and a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Amberton University.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
At Books Over Bottles, I believe that healing is a journey—one that requires courage, self-awareness, and support. My approach to therapy is rooted in compassion, empowerment, and faith-based principles, while also being inclusive and tailored to each individual’s needs. I believe: ✔ Healing is holistic—Our emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being are deeply connected. True healing happens when we address the root causes of pain, not just the symptoms. ✔ Growth comes from understanding—The more we understand our experiences, behaviors, and patterns, the more power we have to create meaningful change. ✔ Faith and resilience go hand in hand—For those who desire it, I integrate faith-based principles into therapy. However, I respect and support clients from all walks of life, meeting them where they are. ✔ Trauma and addiction do not define you—Your past experiences may shape you, but they do not have to control your future. Transformation is possible, and I am here to guide you!
