About My Clients
I understand the importance of cultural context, representation, and trust in the healing process. I am especially intentional about serving African American and multicultural men, as well as teens and families who may not always see themselves reflected in traditional mental-health settings. My counseling style is warm, compassionate, and personal—especially for clients who may feel hesitant, overwhelmed, or unsure where to turn. I thoughtfully integrate Christian faith when desired.
My Background and Approach
I am a licensed mental health counselor (MA,LMHC, SPARC) and ordained non-denominational Christian minister dedicated to serving teens, college students, adults, and families in the Greater Iowa City area. With a background in counseling, ministry, and community service, I have worked with individuals from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and faith backgrounds. I have a calm presence and practical, compassionate style that helps clients feel safe discussing struggles they may have carried alone for years. Over time, my practice has developed a strong focus on men’s issues, addictions (including pornography and gaming), anxiety, depression, and relationship concerns. My multicultural perspective informs my commitment to serving African American and underserved communities. Through my practice, I integrate evidence-based therapy with optional faith-based support, emphasizing whole-person healing, resilience, and hope.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that every person has inherent value and the capacity for growth, healing, and change. My Christian faith shapes my view that people are created with purpose and dignity, and that hope is possible even in difficult seasons of life. I also believe that emotional, spiritual, physical, and relational health are deeply connected, and that therapy can be a place where all of these parts of life are honored. I respect the beliefs and backgrounds of every client I serve. For those who desire it, I am comfortable integrating faith and spiritual practices into counseling; for those who do not, I provide evidence-based care without pressure or expectation. At the core of my work is compassion, respect, and the belief that no one is beyond help or restoration.
