About My Clients
I prioritize creating an affirming, accessible, and empowering space for 2SLGBTQIA+, BIPOC, neurodivergent, and disabled or chronically ill folks. I have 6+ years experience working with high school students in holistic support programs, primarily with English language learners. Many of my clients are drawn to art therapy because it facilitates communication that does not rely on words, along with supportive nervous system regulation and self-expression.
My Background and Approach
I offer a systems-based approach to mental health, considering the mind-body connection, the health of our relationships, and the impacts of systemic oppression. Drawing from liberation psychology, I advocate for collective liberation as a key aspect of trauma healing and honor indigenous models of wellness based on interconnectedness and community care. As an art therapist, I believe creating art can help to express emotions, regulate the nervous system, and communicate with the self and others. Anyone can benefit from art therapy, regardless of their artistic background, as the focus is on the process and personal reflection, without judgment or pressure to perform! My approach to therapy is holistic and non-pathologizing, incorporating strength-based and person-centered approaches to honor your inner wisdom and celebrate your resilience and growth. I also integrate mindfulness, attachment theory, and somatic practices to support you with finding balance and feeling grounded.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am a queer mixed media artist and especially love creating art in collaboration with nature, as well as politicized artwork. I am involved in community organizing and activism work connecting local struggles to global liberation movements, with a focus on Palestine. I stand for 2SLGBTQIA+ rights, Black liberation, disability justice, Landback, and immigrant justice, and honor resistance against colonialism, imperialism, and genocide. I am committed to a social justice-informed approach to mental healthcare, understanding the impact of power and privilege inside and outside of the therapy space, as well as the importance of increasing access for folks of marginalized identities. I consider it my responsibility as a therapist to remain self-aware, open to criticism, and seeking to learn and grow. In my free time, I can be found cuddling with my cats, crafting, reading, or spending time outside :)
