About My Clients
I primarily work with adults who have experienced trauma and are struggling with the effects of PTSD. This can include a range of symptoms and co-morbid diagnoses, including things like anxiety and depresssion. I also work with couples who are seeking to relieve distress in the relationship and gain better tools to enhance it. I use the Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
My Background and Approach
Bruce has over 9 years of experience in Pastoral Counseling, started clinical counseling in 2018, receiving his License as a Professional Counselor in 2020. Bruce is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and Idaho Mental Health Counselor Association (IMHCA). Bruce is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), a Certified Grief Counseling Specialist (CGCS), a National Certified Counselor®, and licensed in the state of Idaho. Bruce is also Level 2 trained in using the Gottman Method of Couples Counseling. Regardless of the counseling technique used, the most important & helpful element in counseling is the counselor-client relationship. This relationship is fundamental in creating effective change in a client’s thinking & beliefs, which in turn, affects their behavior. My primary areas of focus are men’s issues, relationships/marriage, and trauma.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Sometimes we can feel stuck or trapped in hurt or a struggle. It’s in those times that we need someone to walk with us. I’m convinced that people are the expert of themselves, but that sometimes we have difficulty seeing that and need a compassionate and patient person to remind them of that, offer them a different perspective, and help them discover new tools for effecting lasting change. I use a variety of client-focused approaches to help each person meet their individual goals.
