I minored in religion while at Florida State University and I find that using someone's spiritual beliefs can be a strength in their recovery. Our belief system has an impact not only on our feelings and behaviors, but also on our thoughts, self-identity, and awareness. My hope is to help you focus in on your spiritual goals, by coming to terms with the past, gaining skills in the present, and visualizing a better tomorrow.

Grief and loss is inevitable because change is permanent. How we come to terms with that ultimately play a huge part in how much we suffer. No one get's out of the experience of aging, death, grief, or loss. We might as well face our reality and learn to accept our present moment as it is. This can take a lifetime or many to gain that wisdom. No one should grieve alone. We don't have to, just because we lost someone or something special to us, doesn't mean we should be alone with it forever.

"The mind is a beautiful master, but a lousy servant." Ultimately the human mind (which we all have and experience) is the root cause of our attachments or addictions in life. How to learn for to peaceful detach to that addiction or attachment is the big question, but everyone has that answer inside them if they are willing to look. Through mindfulness, 12-step teaching, relapse prevention skills, and other therapy modalities, I teach out how to create and use a toolbox of coping skills.

I worked in a drug and alcohol rehab for over 5 years on and off. Addiction is just a symptom of trauma, an unhealthy living/society/environment, and lack of emotional regulation skills. My goal is to treat the whole human at a biopsychosocial level, meaning I look at all areas of the human, and the issues within those areas, to provide coping skills and education for those issues. Examples: physical health, social life, thoughts, feelings, genetics, upbringing, traumata, spirituality, etc.

I'm EMDR trained through Connect EMDR and I am passionate about it's benefits to help clients with symptoms that they just cannot seem to shake off. If you have not heard of EMDR, I highly suggest looking into it's success stories. Before diving into EMDR work I pay special and genuine attention around safety planning by making sure the client has both adequate internal and external coping skills. It's an honor and joy to see clients experience the miracles that this modality truly brings.

Studying mindfulness is something I naturally do during my leisure time. Learning how to create a lifestyle where the human mind is not racing constantly, trying to control everything, or bullying you, is essential. The quote, "The human is a wonderful servant, but a terrible master," resonates truly to what a lifestyle of mindfulness practice can bring to you. We no longer have to identify with the thoughts in our head, instead we can utilize thoughts as a computer when we want to.
