About My Clients
I work with teens, adults, couples, and families. I primarily use a method called narrative therapy, which believes that we can rewrite the stories we’ve told ourselves to more accurately represent who we are at our core, separate from our problems. We will work together to identify your concerns, externalize them, and investigate the narratives that are fueling them. If you’re open to it, we’ll even incorporate things like art, journaling, and meditation to relax and open up the mind.
My Background and Approach
In all my sessions, I aim to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space to talk about whatever is on your mind. I will respond with unconditional empathy and validation. I will empower you to explore your strengths, find solutions to your struggles, and discover new ways of thinking about your life. I will also gently challenge you to step outside your comfort zone and offer accountability as you work towards your goals. When working with couples, I’ll help you and your partner manage conflict and enhance your friendship using the Gottman Method, which is rooted in decades of research on successful relationships. We’ll identify and eliminate unhealthy patterns in your relationship and replace them with rituals that foster respect and empathy. I am Level 2 trained in the Gottman Method, which means I have completed 36 hours of education through the Gottman Institute. I earned my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Counseling doesn't work if it's not a safe space for the client, so I endeavor to make everyone I work with feel comfortable and understood. There are so many life experiences and identities I haven't had firsthand, so I'll let you take the lead to the extent that you're comfortable. It's not my job to make assumptions or tell you what's best for your life. Instead, I am just a source of guidance and support walking alongside you.
