In my work with childhood issues; much of what I've seen throughout treatment leads me back to a rupture of attachment with a primary caregiver. I am passionate about learning more about infant/toddler mental health; serving those who would like to heal broken familial connections.

In my work with racial trauma, I have seen firsthand how the trauma of parents are passed down to the children. Often, the mental illness or behavioral patterns of adults were formed when they were being raised in their homes of origin. Parents with mental illnesses are often demonized for lacking the tools that they were never given. I would like to help parents re-parent themselves; therefore stopping the cycle of trauma.

I am a two time survivor of Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders and have volunteered as a group facilitator for a local agency that runs maternal mental health programming. I have a passion for holding space for women during this very tumultuous time in their lives; from pre-pregnancy through to postpartum.

It is my belief that Play Therapy is the best treatment to use with a child. Through use of various therapeutic toys, games, and other tools (kid yoga!), I can enthusiastically and creatively help a kiddo learn healthy coping, emotion expression, self-mastery, and increased self esteem.

We hold trauma in our bodies and it often affects our relationships, our choices, and our body chemistry. I have learned how to provide a safe environment to both uncover and process our most withheld, painful memories.

I am a firm believer that changing the way you think and process events and circumstances can allow you to change your life. Perspective and interpretation is the hardest part to shift, but with help, you can transform your life prior to external changes. I am knowledgeable about the various cognitive distortions we use everyday, as well as the techniques to combat them.

The mind and the body are intricately connected; with the body holding its own memory. Somatic work can aid in a holistic focus where the two worlds can work together to facilitate healing.

Insight can be a powerful conduit for gaining self-awareness of more unconscious, hidden parts of the self. Although behavior in and of itself can be an effective focus on therapy; it is not the only focus.

More westernized modalities focus on symptoms, whereas other cultures may include other facets of life like one's story and legacy. Communal trauma exists and can influence biographical change. Without the inclusion of one's culture and communal history; it is possible that both areas of dis-ease and appropriate treatment methods may be overlooked.

Truthfully, therapists need safe spaces too. Grappling with issues like clarity/alignment within the counselor identity, secondary trauma, and burnout, I enjoy supporting therapists!

Psychodynamic therapy is based on key principles: Unconscious motivations — such as social pressure, biology, and psychology — can affect behavior. Experience shapes personality, which can, in return, affect an individual's response to that experience. Past experiences affect the present. The goals of psychodynamic therapy are client self-awareness and understanding of the influence of the past on present behavior.
