My approach with clients is both universal and personal. Every client is unique and brings into the room a unique set of experiences, beliefs, goals and desires. And at the same time all humans experience suffering and have a desire to relieve their suffering and be happy. With this dualism I try to help clients better see and understand the sources of their suffering while also using their experiences of suffering to nourish their innate connection with other humans and the world at large.

As I've told clients before, I use somatic therapy during sessions to help remind them that they have a body. How involved somatic work is in session depends largely on what each client wants and needs. The range varies from incorporating some mindfulness check-ins during sessions to learning and practicing body-based tools together. I work with clients to help them feel safe in their physical bodies in order to sustain the healing work we do together.

Similar to my use of somatic tools, I utilize mindfulness often in sessions. To me, mindfulness is essential for relieving suffering and finding clarity, connection, and joy in our human experiences. I typically utilize 2 forms of mindfulness during sessions: awareness and concentration. With practice these tools can help create space between triggers and reactions and allow clients' behaviors to more closely match their authentic selves.

I believe anxiety is a natural byproduct of a world with parts that are dangerous and actively doing harm. Also anxiety can be a source of so much suffering and pain for the individual experiencing it. Every client's experience of anxiety is unique, and also I believe universal suffering from anxiety can be softened with mindfulness and compassion. I meet all experiences of anxiety with softness, nonjudgment, and compassion. I aso teach these skills to clients who are interested in practicing.
