About My Clients

I specialize in working with relationships and individuals where folks may not have been given the best relationship blueprint in childhood. This may be due to experiencing childhood trauma, such as emotional neglect, physical and/or sexual abuse, substance use, or witnessing violence or frequent conflict in your home. Despite your best efforts, you may still be struggling to build a relationship with your loved ones that is rooted in respect and healthy conflict.

My Background and Approach

I utilize Emotionally Focused Couples therapy to help you, or you and your partner get unstuck from the cycle of the same old argument, that usually seems to go nowhere. I can guide you both, by providing compassionate accountability and tenderness, to a place where conflict can be calm and take 20 minutes instead of hours or days. Other areas of specialization include identity development, cross-cultural relationships, impact of oppression (i.e. racism, heterosexism, classism, xenophobia, ableism, etc.) on identity and well-being, and substance use. I have a graduate certificate in substance use counseling and completed a two year postdoctoral fellowship in trauma psychology. I also completed an accredited internship in EFT and have received live and video supervision in this modality. My professional and personal interests lie in social justice, equity, and inclusion, and I practice from humanistic, existential, motivational interviewing, harm reduction, and attachment theories.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am of the belief that all therapy is identity work and if we are not explicitly talking about how society and relationships impact ourself, we are ignoring the complexity of the human experience. All of our work will be centered on exploring how you define your relationship with self, others, and the world. I have significant experience helping folks navigate the intersections of both their privileged and oppressed identities; finding areas of pain and marginalization, intergenerational and cultural strengths, and areas of growth and exploration along the way. My research, personal, and professional work have focused on how experiences of oppression and privilege impact well-being and social justice, anti-black racism, multicultural, queer justice, and anti-fat phobia principles will be embedded in all of our work.
