About My Clients

I am experienced in working with children of all ages, couples, adults, and families. I have specialized training in trauma, and I am a Certified School Counselor and am specialized in treating school-based issues. Some of my specialty areas include: post traumatic stress, sexual and physical abuse, mood disorders, anxiety and depression, occupational issues, communication issues, codependency, addictions, coping skills training, grief, and life transitions.

My Background and Approach

I believe that first and foremost, the most important component of therapy is a trusting, safe, empathetic, and collaborative relationship between the client and the therapist. I will work hard to learn and understand your story so that we can figure out how to help you move towards your personal goals in the most effective way possible. I typically use a combination of person-centered, existential, cognitive-behavioral, and solution-focused therapy. Outside of talk therapies, I also use art expression techniques, play therapy, coping skills training, journaling exercises, gradual exposure therapies, and emotional freedom techniques. I tailor my approach to the needs, personality, and communication style of the client. Throughout the therapeutic process, we will check in on your progress so that you can feel confident that we have a shared understanding of where you want to go and the best ways to get there.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that as children we develop coping strategies and communication styles that best help us to get our needs met and to survive. As adults, we may begin to find that these behaviors and strategies are no longer working for us. I believe that everyone has the ability to change and reach a way of relating to the world that is authentic and healthy for them. Coming from a family plagued with the painful challenges of mental illness and addiction, I understand first-hand the adversities that traumatic circumstances can bring to us. Through my own therapy, I have overcome co-codependency issues, substance use issues, and post-traumatic symptomology. Today I feel empowered in my own life, and I want to share the healing I have experienced with others. In my personal life, I am an animal lover and coffee fanatic! I am also am involved in human rights issues, and 12- Step circles. If you want to learn more about how I can help, send me a message! I look forward to hearing from you!
