About My Clients
I have experience working with a variety of presenting issues and work with individuals, couples, and groups. I tend to be more process/pattern focused than skills focused, but find that both approaches are useful. I also want to explicitly state that I am open to working with other professionals, as it can be difficult to find therapy for therapists and other professionals. We all need to support and I am happy to offer my services.
My Background and Approach
I was trained in the Gestalt style but have become more eclectic over time. I am good at identifying underlying patterns to presenting concerns and there finding ways to adapt and resolve. I acknowledge that depending on where a person is in their life, they not be able to resolve their presenting concerns. In those circumstance I am happy to explore ways of coping until a better time for healing presents itself.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I tend to utilize a harm reduction approach as opposed to abstinence only, but also tailor my approach to what the client's goals are. Regarding personal beliefs, I value cultural competence and spend time consulting and researching to avoid prematurely jumping to conclusions. I believe that Black Lives Matter. I am not religious but can respect a variety of belief systems. I have gratitude and respect for the work that first responders do and the trauma they endure. I also work through a framework of systemic racism and generational trauma correlating to our history with colonialism.
