Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy directed at present-time issues and based on the idea that the way an individual thinks and feels affects the way he or she behaves. The focus is on problem solving, and the goal is to change clients' thought patterns in order to change their responses to difficult situations. A CBT approach can be applied to a wide range of mental health issues and conditions including depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, and eating disorders.
The way that mindfulness therapy works is that it trains you to react to things differently. It involves changing your cognition of the way that events are occurring. Instead of automatically responding to events in your life, you can learn to observe them simply. It is important to avoid reacting to incoming stimuli right away. Instead, you can simply accept what is happening and observe it.
Person-centered therapy uses a non-authoritative approach that allows clients to take more of a lead in discussions so that, in the process, they will discover their own solutions. I am there to encourage and support the client and to guide the therapeutic process without interfering with the client's process of self-discovery.
