About My Clients

Have you found yourself experiencing big, overwhelming emotions one minute, then numb and shut down the next? Do you find yourself feeling so ashamed of what's going on in your head that it's hard to get out of bed and face the day? Are you questioning, "Why can't I just get it together?" You want to understand why you feel the way you do and why you keep ending up in the same unsatisfying relationships so you can start to build the life you want. I can help.

My Background and Approach

I specialize in working with complex, relationship/attachment-based trauma and PTSD. I strive to make sure my clients understand that their trauma symptoms are normal responses to the painful things that have happened to them. Folx living with the legacy of trauma often feel a great deal of shame about what happened to them and how it impacts them. I understand how isolating the experience can be when you don't have support, and I strive to help folx heal and build the lives that they want for themselves. My approach is based on building an authentic relationship with my clients that can foster trust and a safe space where you can feel understood and accepted where you are in the moment while also learning tools for caring for yourself and learning to build healthy, balanced relationships with others. In addition to a relational approach, I utilize DBT and EMDR as part of my work with clients to help build coping skills and work through traumatic experiences in a paced, safe manner.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

A lot of people who have come in after experiencing a lack of attunement, nurturing, and/or safety in relationships think that there is something wrong with them for feeling the way they do. This couldn't be further from the truth! I believe the responses people experience as a result of prolonged deficits in these core needs are normal responses to abnormal situations. We need to be seen, nurtured, comforted, and protected to grow into healthy adults. I believe that when it comes to therapy, being able to have a relationship that helps repair some of those deficits is key to helping you learn to nurture, protect, and validate yourself. This belief is shaped by knowing my own struggles to rise up out of the mud. I do this work because I’ve been there, and I have always appreciated therapists who were able to be “real” with me rather than cold, distant, and humorless. Some Fun Facts: I went to art school before I decided to become a therapist. I am a lifelong cat lady & animal lover.
