My Background and Approach
My aim as your therapist is foster safety in our sessions as I earn your trust. I bring my expertise in mental health, but I believe you, as the client, are the expert in your life. In our sessions, your voice is uplifted and centered, and you can share without fear of judgment. As your therapist, I believe my role is to hold up a mirror to reveal your internal experiences as we explore your inner world and work toward collaboratively developed therapeutic goals. We will spend a lot of time processing and unpacking emotions. I also will provide psychoeducation when appropriate. My practice is first and foremost feminist and relational. This means I incorporate egalitarianism, intersectionality, and advocacy into the counseling process. It also means I believe in empowering clients through authentic connection and collaboration. I also believe in transparency in the therapeutic process and may share rationale behind therapeutic choices.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
A little about me as an individual: I am neurodivergent, a direct communicator (I do curse constantly, be warned!), and a highly sensitive person who navigates the world with chronic conditions and disabilities. I am in the LGBTQIA+ community, anti-racist, sex positive and kink-friendly, and sex-work affirming. In my free time you may find me listening to audiobooks, playing Pokemon, or spending time in the garden. I enjoy volunteering in conservation and connecting with the community to provide education about butterflies and their ecosystems. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ I have a holistic, BioPsychoSocial view of well-being that considers the interplay between mental and physical health. I take not only the individual’s traits into account, but also social and cultural influences such as identity, systemic oppression, and passed down beliefs. When it is possible, I consider connection to land and ancestral practices in treatment planning.
