About My Clients
You're thoughtful and growth-oriented, but frustrated that your relationships are not fulfilling, that they hurt you, or that you don’t have the tools to find and keep a healthy relationship. Or maybe you struggle with loneliness, isolation, fear of the future, or you're having questions about your career, relationships, or life direction. I have worked with anxiety, depression, divorce, relationship difficulties, codependence, immigration trauma, marginalized identity.
My Background and Approach
My style is warm, curious, and attentive. I build a real relationship with clients, and always check in to see how therapy is feeling so you can feel safe and heard. My approach is strengths-based, trauma-informed, and deeply relational. I draw from attachment theory, ACT, DBT, and interpersonal behavioral therapy. Through our collaborative work, I will help you feel hard emotions and learn more about who you are. Together, we will also supportively explore unhelpful patterns that get in the way of living the life you want. Therapy with me is also goal-oriented. We work together to set goals, check on progress, and make sure we’re getting to the core of what’s going on. Not only will we get a sense of what the “barriers” are, but we’ll also experiment with trying new ways of doing, relating, and being. Therapy with me is experiential: by slowing down and getting curious about what’s happening in the present moment, you can cultivate new ways of responding.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I have been part of the social justice community for many years in my work, education, and schooling. In my practice, I draw from the ideals of liberation theology--I believe that therapy can be a force for undoing oppression. I believe it's most healing to approach conversations about race/ethnicity/identity in a curious, nuanced way that fosters deepening of understanding and identity. The way I approach conversations about race, class, and other forms of marginalization is to be curious, nuanced, and open. There is no “right” way to explore your identity or heal from pain around race, class, gender, sexuality. These healing/growing processes are embedded in a common experience, yet they are also deeply personal. As a White, straight cis-gendered woman, I can never walk in your shoes. I may have a sense of where the pain points are, but I have blind spots. I regularly use consultation to support me in processing when I miss something so I can be with you in humility and respect.
