About My Clients

I personally understand how painful it can be to go to someone for support and instead be met with invalidation or rejection. My goal as a counselor is therefore to create a space where my clients feel safe, seen, and celebrated for who they are. I work primarily with trans and queer people ages 16+, on issues ranging from managing depression and anxiety, to making hard choices about the next steps in your life, to discovering new truths about your own identity.

My Background and Approach

I consider myself a cognitive behavioral therapist, with primary influence from models such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). This means that I think about problems systemically and contextually, and focus more on helping my clients live the life they would like to be living rather than strictly treating symptoms. I also practice from a feminist, person-centered perspective. This means that while I bring my own expertise into the therapeutic relationship, I recognize that you are the only expert on yourself. Ideally, therapy is a collaboration between you and me as equals, learning from each other and working together to determine the best path forward.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

In my view, so many of the problems my clients bring to therapy are the direct result of the oppressive and alienating nature of the social and economic systems under which we currently live. Because of this, the work that I do is fundamentally political. I work from an anti-oppressive, anti-capitalist perspective. This means that I believe in building a society in which every person has equal access to resources and the right to belong to an organized, loving community. Towards that end, I am constantly learning from the experiences of people who are unlike myself and exploring ways to use my substantial degree of privilege to empower marginalized communities and create social change.

I offer online counseling in the following states:
