About My Clients
I specialize in working with individuals and couples on anxiety problems, relationship issues, and LGBTQ issues. When fear, anxiety, or relationship problems feel like they're getting out of hand, it's so painful -- and you feel trapped, unable to live the life you want. My cognitive-behavioral (CBT) approach is grounded in the latest science, and in a meaningful therapist-client connection that helps you build new, concrete skills that get you out of being "stuck," and back on solid ground.
My Background and Approach
My main approach is cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), which means I work with clients on the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that are causing them emotional or relationship distress. I take an active, collaborative, and direct approach to therapy, and I highly value building a comfortable, caring professional relationship with clients. My clients would tell you I'm warm, supportive, direct, "real,” and open-minded. I know how powerful therapy can be in creating meaningful, lasting growth and change — and and how scary and challenging it can be. I love being a therapist, and I’m honored and humbled to be a part of the process for others, especially those in the LGBTQ community. I have over 15 years of experience treating anxiety, emotional disorders, and relationship problems, including over 8 years of private practice. My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in science, and in using scientifically-supported therapy techniques. I also believe in the power of human connection, and the transformative role the therapist-client relationship can play in growth, change, relief, and freedom. In the therapy room and beyond, I value empathy, understanding, acceptance, and connecting with others as sources of meaning and strength. I see clients of all genders and sexualities. But as gay man myself, I know how hard it can be to find a therapist that fits, a therapist you can be your whole self with, who "gets" it. I take an LGBTQ-affirmative approach to all of my work with LGBTQ clients. "Affirmative" doesn't just mean being "ok" or "nonjudgmental" about LGBTQ identities — it means affirming the positivity, validity, and diversity of LGBTQ experiences, and recognizing the roles of homophobia, transphobia, and discrimination in our community's wellbeing and relationships too. Whatever your background and needs, I hope you'll reach out.
