About My Clients
My clients are mostly 5-18 year olds, and their parents/families. I help families who have a child dealing with ADHD, Autism, tantrums, anxiety, anger outbursts, school behavior problems, perfectionism, foster/adoptive issues, trauma, divorce, and grief. Clients include parents who cannot handle their child’s behavior anymore and need an ally to work with them and their child.
My Background and Approach
I have worked in non-profits, social work positions, school counseling, and school-based mental health counseling. I have worked with kids and families for over 10 years. I decided to become certified as a Play Therapist because I recognized that the best communication with children is NOT talk-based therapy; it’s through play! I step into the child’s world, and communicate the way they feel comfortable. And yes, this includes adolescents! Approaching therapy in a playful manner is the best way for kids to break down their resistance to therapy and start the hard work that needs to be done. I also work with parents as a coach, because I know working just with your child won’t be effective—it’ll create dependence on me! Not effective or helpful, so I make sure you, the parent, are involved in every step of the process.
