About My Clients
My clients come from a diverse range of backgrounds and there's no one ideal candidate for the job. What they all do have in common though is a no longer bearable amount of mental and emotional pain, and a desire for healing and growth. Even if you're not right now ready for healing and growth though, with a little work, we can get you there!
My Background and Approach
As a clinician, I employ an eclectic range of theories and techniques aimed at helping clients gain a healthier and more fulfilling life. One of the approaches I find most helpful and work from most often is referred to as Existential Therapy. Mortality, meaning and fulfilment are ideas that all humans struggle with and this struggle can often lead to trouble if not examined properly. As an Existential Therapist, our work together is aimed at helping you accept and embrace mortality so that it can be used as a motivator to live a more meaningful and therefore, healthier life.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
To quote Jungian psychologist James Hillman, I believe "the therapy room should be a cell of revolution". Rather than encouraging my clients to seek mental and emotional wellness by simply conforming to standard cultural and societal beliefs, I encourage finding health through authentic living even, if challenges the status quo. American society often promotes toxic attitudes and unhealthy practices and when we don't live up to those standards or don't feel right engaging in those practices, we're often left feeling like there's something wrong with us. Although an honest look inward is important, I want to also challenge my clients to examine the external. The question asked by many therapist is "what's wrong with you?" I want to encourage my clients to also ask the question "what's wrong with the system and how is it harming me?"
