About My Clients

Do you find yourself playing out the same scenarios and challenges in your relationships with friends, family, and partners? Do you feel like you’re experiencing perennial conflicts and are struggling to make a change? Maybe you feel uncertain about who you are and where your life is headed. Therapy can be a wonderful tool in helping you deepen your understanding of your own self, needs, and patterns and identify areas for transformation.

My Background and Approach

My original training as a therapist took place at Indiana University's LGBTQ+ Culture center. Throughout my career I've incorporated many of the lessons and values imparted by this setting, particularly around supporting human dignity and the need to acknowledge the roles politics, family, culture, and society have on mental health. I view therapy as a collaborative endeavor and I bring a systems perspective to my work as a therapist. As we move through the world we can adopt unhelpful ways of thinking and relating to ourselves and others. That mindset can inhibit our ability to experience fulfilling relationships and lead our fullest lives. I view my role in this process less as the “expert” in the room, and more as a collaborator and guide as you navigate life’s challenges. While my framework resides in Feminist and Queer theoretical perspectives, I pair this with evidence-based approaches to increase insight and skills in managing life’s challenges.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I view the work of therapy in the greater scope of society and progress – as we help individuals lead healthier lives we create a healthier society overall. My work is based on Feminist and Queer theories – which are oriented on helping to make the world a safer place for difference. This view, however, means that I am active outside the therapy room as well. As a queer, gay, first-generation college graduate from the rural Midwest- I believe that activism outside of clinical work is a crucial part of any therapist's identity. I've spent the majority of my career working within university settings to adopt gender affirming care as a normative part of all primary care- as well as adopting broader policies to support queer communites in higher education.
