I have a second license and extensive training/experience working with people who would like to challenge their patterns of alcohol and drug use. This includes trainings regarding co-occurring disorders (mental health and addiction), the impact of substance use on the brain, relapse prevention, and motivating change. I am passionate about challenging the shame created through the cultural stereotype of addiction and walking with clients as they chose what changes in their use are best.
I have completed several trainings regarding the impact of trauma on our nervous system and healing internal activation relate to traumatic experiences. I use the technique of Brainspotting in order to help clients heal from trauma and grounding/mindfulness skills in order to manage trauma responses in daily life.
I am a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor in Texas and a Licensed Addiction Counselor in Colorado and have five years of experience working with clients struggle with substance abuse. Each of my license requires 40 hours of addiction classes/training on top of my Master's degree focused on understanding the experience and treatment of addiction. I am passionate about using my expertise to see and understand clients experience without increasing shame.
I have completed two 21 hour training courses on integrating the approach of motivational interviewing in counseling approach. Motivational Interviewing is a counseling approach that is client-centered (you are the expert), counselor directed (I make observations and help increase awareness) focused on resolving inner conflict regarding change. This approach focuses on empowering clients to find their own meaning for, desire to, and capacity for change.
I have completed Phase 1 and 2 of Brainspotting training and use this within session as clients desire. This approach focuses on the connection between the body and brain and strives to quickly reduce activation and increase emotional regulation. This approach is helpful for reducing symptoms related to trauma, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and chronic pain and chronic fatigue.
