About My Clients
People may seek therapy for a variety of reasons, and I work hard to meet them where they are at. This sometimes may include helping others to adjust to major changes in their lives such as grief/loss, employment changes, or relational stressors. At other times, it may including working through feelings of hopelessness, and thoughts of suicide. Sometimes it may involve processing past traumas, or finding ways to reduce intrusive worries. I look forward to hearing how I can help you.
My Background and Approach
I have many years of experience as a clinical therapist, working with both children, and adults. I have worked with people dealing with a wide variety of mental health diagnoses. My specialties include, anxiety, depression, trauma, adjustment disorders, and behavioral concerns. I also have a background in crisis intervention, and collaborative care, which has helped me to grow an understanding of available resources in the area, and knowledge on how to strengthen an individual's support system. In therapy, I have a broad range of modalities which I pull knowledge from. These include Cognitive Behavioral THerapy, Dialectic Behavioral therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Processing therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment therapy. I typically like to start with helping someone reduce immediate distress, and become more mindful in their daily lives. I then move on to explore the thoughts and feelings they are experiencing, and help to make these as healthy as possible.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am a King County Native, originating from Auburn, WA. I am a typical Pacific Northwestern-er. My spare time is usually spent kayaking, hiking, playing music, and enjoying coffee. It makes me very glad that I now have the opportunity to give back to the community in an area that I love. I put a lot of value into being open, and accepting when performing therapy, so that each person can have a safe, non-judgmental environment, to promote healing. I have connections with LGBT, and indigenous communities of this area. I also have a lot of personal experience dealing with disability, chronic pain, and other medical factors that may impact mental health. I am a strong proponent of education, and enjoy teaching others about brain chemistry, coping skills, therapy modules, diagnostic terms, and general emotional well being. If you want to learn more about taking care of your mental health, or just need a safe space to share how you feel, reach out to me!
