About My Clients
My clients include a wide range of backgrounds, ethnicities, ages, belief systems, and sexual orientations. Although I think I make a large impact working with adolescents, young adults and families, my ideal client is anyone who is ready to commit to the challenging work of solving her or his problems. Therapy is not always as much fun as a manicure or massage... but the results can be long lasting.
My Background and Approach
My approach to therapy encourages and supports self-awareness. Since 2003 I have helped clients reduce stress from life issues and find timely solutions to tough problems. I have extensive clinical experience working with depression, anxiety, trauma and substance abuse issues. I offer a client-centered approach to therapy, which emphasizes existential and psychodynamic principles. When working with substance abuse issues I often incorporate motivational interviewing techniques. I frequently introduce non-verbal techniques in talk therapy sessions. I was born and raised in Miami. After college at the University of Georgia, I lived in Atlanta and later Maine and Boston. I received a masters degree in counseling and art therapy from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY and later practiced in Boston. In 2014, I moved back to Miami. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Florida and a Board Certified, Registered Art Therapist.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Having worked extensively with indigent families, reducing hunger in this country is a cause that has my passion. I currently volunteer with a food bank in South Florida. I realize this is a small effort, but I constantly share the word with my more privileged friends and strangers that food stamps are not enough to feed our children. At the other end of the spectrum I volunteer as an advisor for young women students at the U. of Miami. These women will be future professionals and leaders and I value helping them as they are navigating issues as they are planning their adult lives.
