About My Clients
My clients are usually young Latinas struggling with their beliefs, which result from their upbringing, clashing with confusing cultural identities. They are bright and motivated for change, but they feel anxious about wanting to make changes. They may be struggling in their relationship or family. They tend to hold everything inside and can sometimes struggle with their health due to these suppressed emotions.
My Background and Approach
As a first-generation Latina with over 22 years of counseling experience, I have found that most clients must work on boundaries. We will work on where your current core beliefs came from and use different clinical approaches, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness techniques, and other types of therapy, depending on you. I believe in assigning homework that helps you practice what we learn in therapy and that will help you get closer to your goals. Most assignments will be easy to implement anywhere to quickly help you decrease that anxiety and teach you to create new beliefs and boundaries that reflect who you truly are.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
One of the most profound gifts I have ever received was my first pair of glasses. I was in the 7th grade and was so nearsighted that I couldn’t see the board at school anymore. It made me try twice as hard to understand what the teacher was writing on the board, and then I would go home and study it on my own until I got it. Finally, the school nurse told my parents I was struggling, and I got my first pair of glasses. Putting them on for the first time, I was amazed at all the details around me that I thought were lost. I could see each leaf on a tree, and each pebble in the yard. Therapy is a tool that can help us all navigate our world and find not just ourselves but others. It can help you see the same tree much richer, and the glow in your partner’s eyes when they look at you. I’m here to help you wear those glasses when things aren’t clear or you get lost.
