About My Clients
I enjoy working with teens, adults, and older adults, and have personal and professional experience with these groups. I see clients only via telehealth, so it's important to be motivated for change and ready to share in words what is on your mind. Some of my clients are problem-solving practical ways to manage their life and challenges, while others are seeking a better understanding of their past and experiences, and some are doing both! I am here to support and challenge clients as needed.
My Background and Approach
My training is as a social worker, and I strive to support my clients as individuals and as part of a larger social context. I have internship and work experience in non-profit career exploration with middle and high school youth; Veterans and their families with physical and mental health challenges and end-of-life decisions; adults in inpatient behavioral health including depression, personality disorders, schizophrenia, and psychosis; and outpatient therapy with middle and high school youth and adults dealing with depression, anxiety, panic attacks, suicidal thoughts and history, ADHD, autism spectrum, trauma, and personality disorders. The therapies I use most are cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness practices, acceptance and commitment therapy, and psychodynamic therapy. I work with clients to use the best tools for their goals, whether it's solving current problems, better understanding your past, and/or making decisions about your future.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My work starts with understanding the history, circumstances, and social contexts that clients exist in, and knowing that they are doing their best with the options, abilities, and tools they currently have. Whether or not I agree with my clients' politics, religion, or beliefs, I value being able to prioritize my clients' goals and support my clients in making personal changes that help them live with integrity. I balance this with a commitment to research and best practices for healthy relationships and successful outcomes for clients as well as the people in their lives. I am passionate about grief and end-of-life work, disability support, promoting healthy relationships and reducing interpersonal violence, trauma processing and recovery, men's issues, women's issues, and finding existential meaning.
