About My Clients

Am I the right therapist for you? I specialize in helping people with a history of: Religious Trauma & Spiritual Abuse, Faith Transitions, Trauma & PTSD, Nervous System Dysregulation, Anxiety, Depression, Sexual Assault & Abuse, Workplace Trauma & Toxic Work Cultures. I pull from my extensive training in mind/body therapy approaches to create your personalized roadmap for trauma resolution.

My Background and Approach

This is trauma therapy for those who want to do more than “Just talk.” Many of my clients come to me after a past experience with talk therapy where they didn’t feel they were progressing. They’d go to sessions and rehash the narrative of their trauma… and nothing would really change. They would stay stuck in old, familiar patterns. They would experience emotional triggers regularly. It felt like constant work to cope (let alone thrive!). And they would start to wonder whether lasting change — change that becomes second nature — was even possible for them. If this sounds like you, here’s what I want you to know: Change is possible. But it may require more than “just talking.” My experience and training post doctorate is in Somatic Experiencing and EMDR where we integrate a mind/body approach to healing and resolving trauma.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

My story starts as a pastor’s kid in a fundamentalist religion. In the religion I grew up in, women weren’t allowed to go to the movies, wear pants, wear makeup, cut their hair, or wear jewelry. We were encouraged to prioritize becoming a wife and mother over forming a career. Still, my interest in psychology was strong enough that I decided to pursue a career in it anyway. Over the next decade, I pursued a master’s degree and a doctorate, continually pushing back on the ideal of becoming a submissive homemaker in the shadow of her male counterpart. Along the way, studying psychology led me to some important breakthroughs about my experience in my religion. Though I didn’t experience an acute instance of trauma, I found that I exhibited many of the classic signs of PTSD, due to the oppressive nature of my upbringing. As I went on, I began to see that what I was learning about psychology and mental health was setting me free from my past.
