About My Clients
I work with adults and older teens seeking assistance with a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, life transitions, and identity development and change. Clients who find me often express that they are wanting a way to go deeper than just coping with their challenges--they want to heal and transform. I utilize approaches that help clients work with the roots of their challenges, not just the symptoms.
My Background and Approach
I work primarily through the Internal Family Systems modality. This approach sees all of us as containing many parts; often our difficulties arise when different parts are in conflict, or are burdened with beliefs, feelings, or experiences from our past that we have not been able to process and release. I love the gentle nature of this work—we do not need to push or force our way to change, we only need to meet our parts with kindness, curiosity, and a willingness to be surprised by what they have to reveal. I bring a somatic and body-oriented focus to this process, as our body is often the most direct route to understanding where we are stuck. I also bring nearly 15 years of experience with meditation and contemplative practices to my work, and utilize these tools to help clients develop a sense of groundedness, awareness, and confidence in their ability to remain present amidst life's challenges.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
At the most basic level, I believe we are all whole and complete; we all have wisdom, love, compassion, and the capacity for connection within us. My job as a therapist is not to fix or to change anyone—it is to help and support you in connecting with your own knowing, power, and ability to grow and meet your goals. I don't approach therapy from a deficit model--you are not deficient, lacking, or missing anything. Rather, together we can look at the things that constrain your innate capacities from showing up fully in your life, and find out how to gently unwind what holds you back. We all deserve to feel our inherent dignity, well-being, and value, and I seek to make sure everyone I work with feels those qualities are seen and respected when they are with me.
