About My Clients

Many of us reach out when we feel the need for support, or help working through challenging times. Sometimes we face challenges we think are too difficult to manage alone. I believe in taking a strength-based, client-centered approach to psychotherapy, working with you to help you grow toward your best self. The familiar ways you have of dealing with life's complications may not be working; together we can work to identify new positive means of change.

My Background and Approach

In my practice, I work with individuals seeking personal insight, relief from anxiety or depression, and a variety of mental health concerns. I also work with couples and other relationships in whatever forms they take. I have many years of experience with the LGBTQ+ community, and I continue my work as part of the AHP Gender Team to provide services for trans, genderqueer, non-binary, and gender non-conforming clients as well as others. I have presented at conferences and organizational meetings about cultural humility and working with gender issues. My therapy style is integrative, working with each client to create a treatment plan that fits their specific needs. Generally, I combine psychodynamic work with a strong client-centered/person-centered (Rogerian) orientation. I have experience with CBT and ACT techniques, work with substance use issues from a harm-reduction perspective. I also incorporate elements of narrative, feminist, and interpersonal therapy.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

It is important to me that everyone has access to mental health services, which is why much of my time is spent working at a community mental health clinic serving traditionally under-resourced populations. I reserve a limited number of low-fee appointments, and work with other services in San Francisco to refer clients who may not be able to afford private therapy. I also serve as President of the Board of Directors of Haight Ashbury Psychological Services (, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit low-fee mental health clinic, and as Treasurer of Gaylesta, the Psychotherapist Association for Gender and Sexual Diversity (
