About My Clients
I see clients in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia via teletherapy. I feel privileged to collaborate with adults of all races, genders, sexual orientations, and cultural backgrounds who are seeking a safe place to work through their concerns and difficulties. My goal is to help you develop more peace and contentment in your life, achieve your goals, and create the life you desire.
My Background and Approach
There are many reasons people begin psychotherapy. You may believe what you are experiencing isn’t serious enough or that you should be able to handle things yourself. The truth is that no reason is too small or unimportant for psychotherapy. We all experience times when we can use some support. I work to build a strong relationship with each client, one that promotes trust, awareness, and understanding. To that end, I see counseling as a collaborative effort in which we are partners, without expectations or judgments, who talk with each other not at each other. Although I utilize many theories and techniques, my approach is primarily based on two beliefs: 1) you are a unique and capable individual; and 2) how and what you think determines your beliefs, feelings, and actions. By utilizing complementary techniques we can work together to uncover your strengths while working to change the patterns and beliefs that may be holding you back.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
After working and a legal assistant and volunteering with non-profits for many years, I realized that my desire to help others and make a difference was not fulfilled. So, I returned to school and, in 2007, I received my Master's Degree in Social Work. Prior to going into private practice I had had the privilege of working with foster children and families, at an LGBTQ teen drop in center, at a psychiatric hospital, with at risk families, and at a community mental health center with adults who have chronic mental illness. In 2012 I opened my private practice and continue to work with a diverse clientele with diverse concerns. I strongly believe that everyone should have access to mental health care if they want it and work with my clients to make that possible.
