About My Clients
I get great satisfaction and success out of working with clients who are genuine and ready to make changes. Therapy is a process, not a quick fix. I appreciate having a real connection with people and building trust so that we can make real change. I am direct and will remind you of the goals you set and challenge you when you are avoiding issues but you are always in control of your therapy.
My Background and Approach
I am dually licensed in social work and substance abuse (or misuse). Most issues start quietly and are initially helpful to a situation. Then invisibly grow into problems as we use these learned responses in new situations. Other issues start quite suddenly and can leave us at a loss for a way to deal with a sudden, unwanted, or forced change. We never live in a vacuum and have to consider our people and environment as we adapt in life.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
We all have different beliefs and values. In the greater sense, mine are simple. I believe that we all have a right to be our genuine selves. We have to do it in ways that do not cause harm to others or ourselves. Sometimes that means leaving negative people, places, or things in our past. Yes, the world sometimes sucks. That is an absolute truth. It is also our backdrop for life and we cannot escape it entirely. I believe that knowing when to take a breath and pause, and when to take a breath and act is a skill we refine all our life. No one does anything for no reason. We may not understand or agree with the reason but it helps to know why we and others are making the choices and have the attitudes and ideas that we do.
