About My Clients
My professional background is working with clients struggling with traumatic stress disorders, substance use disorders, self-harm, and mood disorders. I have a strong background working with adolescents and adults in the LGBTQIA+ community specializing in gender trauma and other traumas associated within the LGBTQIA+ community facilitating group therapy and individual sessions. My clients come from many backgrounds and present with many issues, but all share the desire to be heard and helped.
My Background and Approach
I am a registered Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) in the State of Illinois. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.) in Psychology and Sociology from Ashford University and my Master of Arts degree (M.A.) in Counseling with specialization in Forensic Psychology from the Adler School of Professional Psychology. I have experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Play Therapy, Trauma-Focused Therapy, and Crisis Intervention therapeutic methods. My belief is that rapport and honesty is important to establishing a trusting and autonomous therapist-client relationship. I am enthusiastic about destigmatizing mental health, boosting cultural awareness within mental health, working with Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) programming, and incorporating telehealth technology in mental health to reach those that typically do not have access to therapy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As my background and approach suggests, I am passionate about social justice issues and practicing counseling within a multicultural framework. I am devoted to working with clients from disadvantaged backgrounds and those facing persecution. I have worked with the Cook County Sheriff's Department in a Correctional Setting for many years and have witnessed, first hand, how social factors can play a destructive role in a person's life. I am committed to helping my clients rise above challenges and learn techniques to live happier, more fulfilling lives.
