I help adolescents, young adults, and adults find their superpowers. Because standing up & battling anxiety, depression, & stress isn't easy
Counselor in Grand Rapids, MI
You come first, that is a golden rule of mine in counseling. When you sit down with me in the therapy room the floor is yours, so first and foremost it is my duty to help you realize that. In our day-to-day life there is not much, if any, time for that to be acknowledged; that our own well-being and mental state comes before being able to help others.
CBT is the big kid on campus right now for therapy, but for me it just has always made sense. By tracking one's thoughts and challenging them one can also track their behavior with those thoughts. This way of enacting therapy, for me, is giving power back to the client; reminding that you are in the driver's seat of your body. My goal is bring awareness to your thoughts, good or bad, so you can then feel empowered in being explicit in your thoughts and your actions.
One's racial identity is a complex component of who their are. People of color must navigate a world that increasing is pushing them to reject their own culture, while internally containing their sense of self. If you work with me I promise to help you navigate the minefield of self-identity, mass culture identity, and your culture's views on your racial identity. Together I know we will be able to find the You that you want to be; not the you society claims you should be.
Anxiety can feel like a small dragon nibbling on your toes, for awhile you can ignore it but eventually the nibbles turn to bites and you don't know how to get the dragon to go away because it is comfortable right where it always has been. Let's you and me slay that dragon together.
Adolescence can be a tough transitional period for anyone, and therapy can help with this transition. It is my desire to assist adolescents in finding their identity while working with them to manage the daily stress of high school; tests, gossip, romantic interests, relationships, and peer groups.
