Does living with a medical diagnosis feel overwhelming? Does chronic pain get in the way of relationships or things you used to do? As a Health Psychologist, I want to help you better manage the emotional and physical side effects of a diagnosis at different steps of the illness trajectory.
My Background and Approach
As a Health Psychologist (I trained down the street at the University of Miami), I have a unique set of skills that allow me to understand and address the interactions between mind and body. That means that I can help you navigate difficult emotions and teach you ways to cope with physical symptoms or treatment side effects. I have worked with many individuals coping with a medical diagnosis (cancer, diabetes, burn injury, heart disease). I am familiar with medical jargon and will not shy away from addressing difficult topics. I also have experience providing support to loved ones caring for a patient with chronic illness. My approach combines a caring, non judgmental stance with research-based treatments. My main goals are to provide support, improve your quality of life, and help you re-connect with yourself, others, and the things that bring meaning to your life.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Over the years, I have seen family members and clients struggle in silence with chronic illness. No one directly addressed their fear (fear of treatment, recurrence, side effects, etc) or those of their loved ones. They often felt alone, unable to find words to talk about their emotions or deep pain. Witnessing their struggles inspired me to pursue a career in Psychology. I strongly believe that addressing both your emotional and physical health is critical to successfully navigating chronic illness or chronic pain. I also believe that no one should go through this alone. Everyone needs a team of people cheering them on as they go through difficult times.
