I read "The Happiness Trap: How to Stop Struggling and Start Living" by Russ Harris in 2017 and it changed my life! The book is based off of ACT and can be summarized with: you are more than the thoughts you think, the feelings you feel and the sensations you experience in your body. Once you are aware of this truth, you can interact with all three (thoughts, feelings, sensations) in a vastly different way where they have far less power, impact and interference with you living your life!
Our lives happen within the context of our relationships. Understanding how each partner impacts the relationship and how the relationship impacts each partner can help you break free of stuck cycles and patterns and learn new, healthier and more intentional ways to interact with yourself, your partner and the relationship.
Research has shown that the experience you have in a session impacts you far more greatly than what is said. The advantage of going to therapy versus telling a friend your problems (although this is a very helpful and important part of life!) is that I can help you step out of the micro and look at the macro (patterns and dynamics) that is impacting you and can help you get to the root problem rather than trying to fix symptoms.
