About My Clients
Some of my clients are finally ready to talk about what happened when they were a child. Some are navigating more recent abuse or trauma. Others aren't sure if what happened to them "counts," or if they're making it a big deal in their mind. Most survivors of emotional or physical abuse or trauma doubt themselves. They may think it wasn't "bad enough," or that somehow they were responsible. Here's what I know: if it's weighing on you, it's worth unpacking.
My Background and Approach
I'm a licensed professional counselor, with additional certification in Somatic Experiencing, a therapeutic modality designed to help trauma survivors heal. I bring over a decade of experience supporting survivors of sexual violence, family violence, trafficking, substance use, and systemic violence. I have designed, implemented, and directed crisis and advocacy programs for survivors, but my favorite way to work with survivors is one-on-one, in a therapy session. Witnessing others heal and flourish is an honor.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
We all have an innate capacity to heal, when provided with safety and support. Our identities and privileges impact our needs during a healing process, and a therapist's identifies and privileges impact the healing container. As a bisexual, cisgender, White mother who identifies as a survivor of sexual violence, I am bringing my whole self into our relationship. My biases and privileges will impact my work. And I will do my best to own my errors and be accountable to our relationship. Interpersonal harm necessitates interpersonal healing, and I believe it is in the moments of misunderstanding, apology, and repair where some of the most important healing work can occur. You deserve to be seen, respected, heard, and valued every step of the way.
