About My Clients
Navigating modern adulthood can be complicated and stressful. I specialize in helping folks in their 20s and 30s manage a variety of presenting issues including life transitions, trauma, relationships, identity, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and grief and loss. My approach is LGBTQIA+-affirmative, feminist, sex-positive, social justice-oriented, and culturally-inclusive. Together, we'll work to identify patterns, build upon strengths, and enrich your sense of self.
My Background and Approach
I work primarily from an Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) perspective. IFS is a non-pathologizing approach to therapy that focuses on exploring the many “parts” of ourselves. This work allows us to access and make sense of our inner experience with the goal of alleviating conflict, healing deep emotional wounds, and restoring harmony and peace. In addition to IFS, I incorporate Attachment, Narrative, Somatic, and Mindfulness-based approaches. My style is warm, direct, and compassionate, and I provide a safe, collaborative space that nurtures the therapeutic relationship and promotes empowerment and inner growth. A social worker at heart, I strive to highlight and build upon your inner strengths and resources, appreciating all the complexities that make you unique.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My work is rooted in the belief that painful feelings, behaviors, and conditions are, in their own ways, adaptive responses to adversity. I am passionate about de-stigmatizing therapy and pushing against systems that pathologize mental health. I am committed to providing deeply affirming care that actively acknowledges and explores the impact of systemic oppression on marginalized communities. Prior to opening my private practice, I worked for 4 years in community mental health providing psychotherapy and crisis-intervention services to individuals experiencing homelessness, chronic medical issues, and co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions. I have also worked in the re-entry field, providing psychotherapy to folks transitioning out of prison. These experiences helped to shape my passion for social justice issues including criminal justice reform, racial inequality, harm reduction, feminism, and LGBTQIA+ rights.
