About My Clients
You want to be able to enjoy the joy in your life instead of feeling trapped by your emotions and thoughts. You may identify your emotions as intense, consuming, and even unbearable. Perhaps these intense emotions have led to problems in your relationships, risky behaviors like drinking too much, impulsive reactions to life events, and self loathing (shame, guilt, etc.). Maybe the emotions are part of a mental health diagnosis, Post Partum issues, or you have experienced this since birth.
My Background and Approach
If you identify as having unstable, intense emotions (aka emotion dysregulation) and want to manage your emotions better, I can help. I am a DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) informed therapist specializing in working with clients that experience emotion dysregulation. Using DBT, I help people learn skills that can help them live a life worth living, a better quality of life and apply these skills across all facets of their lives. I can help clients break down problems and distressing situations, while helping the person use the new DBT skills they have learned in these situations. I focus on helping a person find balance between extremes, the middle path. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Missouri and Illinois. I have been in the mental health field for over 10 years working in both outpatient, inpatient, and private settings. I have been practicing DBT for the last 7 years. I use the DBT skills and strategies myself in my everyday life (so helpful-not kidding).
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I consider DBT my jam. It has helped me so much in my personal and professional life. Outside of DBT, I am an active member of Post Partum International and feel passionate about stopping the silence of Post Partum issues. I am from a rural area and live in a very rural area so farming, driving, and limited resources are not foreign to me. I enjoy fitness including Crossfit and running (jogging really). I am supportive of the LGBTQ+ community, Black Lives Matter movement, and feminism in general. I currently offer a scholarship or sliding fee scale to some clients who are committed to therapy and struggle with financial means. I support local, small businesses whenever I can in my community or when traveling. And speaking of travel, I like to travel and explore new places but I can also appreciate the cornfields out my front yard.
