About My Clients

While trans identified individuals face many of the same challenges as cisgender people, such as depression, anxiety and relationship concerns, I am also aware of the challenges unique to transgender and non-binary people and their loved ones including discrimination, stigma, rejection, and oppression. I also see tremendous strength and resilience among trans and non-binary people, which drives my ongoing passion for this work.

My Background and Approach

I graduated from the University of Michigan with a Masters Degree in Social Work over 15 years ago. Since that time I've had the pleasure of working in many different areas, helping individuals on their journey in life. After working in foster care, family preservation, providing therapy for those with disordered eating, chronic illness, depression and anxiety, I began my training to work specifically with the transgender community. I am drawn to the strength and resilience I've seen in my clients and look forward to helping you maneuver around the obstacles that may be preventing you from living your most authentic self. I have a vast amount of experience in helping individuals who are navigating difficult situations. Having worked with diverse populations, I recognize that your circumstances are unique to you and therefore approaching the healing process in a way that incorporates your individuality is essential.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I understand that being a parent of a child, of any age, comes with challenges. Having a child who identifies as trans or non-binary often comes with amplified feelings regarding your child's safety, quality of life, wanting to support and protect them, but not always knowing the best way to do that. For the past couple of years I've had the pleasure of co-facilitating a group for parents of trans and non-binary identified individuals. Through my work with this group I have become increasingly more aware of how important it is to have a place where parents can feel comfortable exploring their feelings, while continuing to provide unconditional love to their child. I take a strength-based and warm but direct approach when working with others. I believe that the most important factor to successful therapy outcomes is the relationship between a client and their therapist. With a trusting relationship, I am confident that together we can work through any barriers you may have.
