About My Clients
My practice is tailored to help certain folks vulnerable to chronic overwork and overwhelm: college students, people pleasers, parents, and neurodivergent folks (ADHD, autistic). In more than one of these groups? It's the perfect storm for burnout. Fortunately, therapy can help.
My Background and Approach
I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) in Athens, GA (LPC013347) offering in person sessions. I have an MS in Clinical Psychology from Pennsylvania State University. I earned my BA in Psychology with a minor in Women’s Studies at Emory University. I use talk therapy, EMDR and parts work (IFS) as a therapist. My biggest theoretical influences are interpersonal neurobiology, attachment theory, mindfulness, and more recently, body-based ways of working. Bonnie Badenoch, Dan Siegel and Juliane Taylor Shore are my biggest guides and academic crushes. I offer free consultations for anyone considering working with me. If I'm not the right therapist for you, I'll help you connect with someone who is.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
The problem of overwork and overwhelm that my clients face often come from broken familial and cultural expectations. College students are facing unprecedented levels of high academic and social stress without adequate support. People-pleasers are taught in their families that they are not entitled to their own time and effort until they've tended to everyone else first. Parents are not supported with reasonable parental leave in the United States. Neurodivergent folks grow up feeling broken and fake, trying to fit into a world that does not accommodate or understand them. I believe these expectations and cultural policies are wounding, and I think responsible therapy should speak to these pieces. I am a feminist therapist. I seek to understand problems in context. You may have had a childhood that has caused you suffering and shaped you-- but I believe there is always more to the picture, and I seek to understand those pieces of your story, too.
