About My Clients
You are aware you want a safe place to explore and process many things: past childhood traumas, relationship issues, choices you've made, and current concerns with relationships, work, etc. You may be curious about the impact of family of origin and past experiences/traumas on your current emotional experience. You may wonder about whether you are codependent or in an abusive relationship. You may want support as you parent your young child or navigate parenting hoping to be "good enough" parent
My Background and Approach
My experience ranges from supporting folks in recovery from substances, DV, and codependency to supporting new parents who are struggling with the demands of parenting. I worked at program supporting women in recovery (Mariposa Women's Center in SoCal) and Head Start and Early Head Start programs providing mental health services to low-income children and families. As a result of all this wonderful experience I know that one approach doesn't work for everyone so I am very eclectic in my approach, attuning to your needs and what best works for you. I'm person-centered and attachment based, believe in the value of exploring your family history and childhood experiences and how they impact your current emotional and psychological state.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Everyone deserves compassion, empathy, understanding and support in their journey through this often baffling experience of life. Navigating the "waters" of self-exploration and change can be scary as well as liberating and reaching out for support is the first sign of your willingness to heal. I am a believer in the value of group support in addition to personal therapy and promote 12-Step and other social support groups. I enjoy the outdoors-camping, hiking, kayaking; caring for and walking my dog; song-writing and playing guitar; being with friends; reading and many other artistic and craft projects.
