I founded CRiY Therapeutic Services because I believe that mental health is just as important as physical health and that everybody can benefit from psychotherapy. My passion lies in assisting clients with coping with challenges, reconciling relationships, and improving one’s overall sense of well-being. I have an eclectic theoretical orientation that includes humanistic, narrative, and cognitive-behavioral techniques that are grounded in evidence-based practices.
My Background and Approach
I specialize in cultivating psychological resilience in individuals who have experienced varying life challenges. I hold a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in social work. With over 20 years of experience, I have developed tools and techniques that help me assist my clients with adapting well in the face of unforeseen adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats, and significant sources of stress. I am proficient in Christian Counseling, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief (SFBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) (Informed), Rational Emotive Behavior (REBT), and Functional Family Therapy (FFT). I strive to foster a safe therapeutic space where clients can tell their stories, gain valuable and constructive insight into how that has impacted them, and create a new self-narrative that is more fulfilling. I pride myself on offering professional, skilled, and competent services.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe we all have an innate ability that resides inside of us. This ability allows us to contend with the strains of the world we live in. This innate ability I call resilience is often buried by unforeseen life circumstances, trauma, self-defeating behaviors, poor habits, and even a lack of knowledge about how the amazing gifts and strengths on the inside of us are. As a black man, I understand what it means to be oppressed and buried by the world around me. I've learned however that oppression is universal as all people can be oppressed by life around and inside of them. This oppression is not just by racism, but by anything and everything that prevents them from becoming the person they were created to be. Uncovering the gifts God has placed and cultivated inside of us all is what drives my therapeutic practice and desire to support others. I am a Christian, a compassionate heart builder, and a therapist with a desire to cultivate resilience in others.
