Holistic Expressive Arts Therapist & Trauma Specialist Breaking Patterns to Break Free from Pain to Joy
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in San Pablo, CA
I utilize a holistic approach to anxiety, incorporating mindfulness, expressive arts therapy, brainspotting, Internal Family Systems, and EMDR. I start from the "bottom-up" approach where we learn from your body's intelligence how to support you in releasing old wounds, stories, beliefs, patterns of thought, and unwanted conditioned thinking. With a compassionate approach, we will dismantle the old, negative mind-body loops and transform them into a healthy, loving relationship with your Self.
I have specialized in PTSD/complex trauma for a decade. As the Manager/Didactic Trainer/Supervisor and Lead Clinician of the Trauma Recovery Center I provided individual therapy, supervised trainees, and led workshops and trainings in Trauma-Informed Mindfulness Trauma/PTSD, Vicarious Trauma and Trauma-Informed Care to therapists, trainees, legal staff, law enforcement, clergy, school staff, and students as well as a variety of organizations working with traumatized populations.
Self-esteem is born of a strong sense of Self. A strong sense of Self comes from learning to attune to the self, understand the self, forgive the self, and come to authentically like and love the self. I know this is possible for each person as I have been privileged to walk this path with many. Through holistic, creative practices we will support you to strengthen your sense of self from within and deeply grow in self-compassion and authentic self-love.
The expressive arts therapy (EXA) approach recognizes your creative ability to heal. By exploring visual images, music, movement, writing, and other art processes, you will be able to get access to unconscious parts, gain insights, and break long-standing patterns. In the expressive arts process, I will guide you to let go of expectations to “be a good artist” and support you to connect to the delight of freeing yourself from your limitations and expressing your authentic self.
Many emotional challenges and disturbing experiences result from unprocessed trauma memories that are stored in the brain. EMDR therapy helps your brain to access and reprocess these traumatic memories, which sets in motion your natural healing processes. EMDR therapy helps with a wide variety of emotional and psychological problems, which include trauma/PTSD, anxiety, phobias, depression, attachment disorders, and negative self-beliefs that contribute to low self-esteem.
In brainspotting, you are seen as the expert on yourself and the therapist as a supportive co-creator. The goal of brainspotting is to support you in connecting to your natural capability to heal. Brainspotting accesses parts of the brain that are not usually accessed through traditional talk therapy approaches, by focusing on what is called the brainspot, along with your bodily sensations and emotions. With this connection, you are able to process and heal stored traumas and negative emotions.
